This is the subsidy for electricity in the quarter from May to July and what users must pay

For the quarter from May to July 2026, the electricity tariff adjustment was established, which includes the social segment; however, it was decided to maintain the subsidy for consumption of 1 to 100 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month.

Electricity rates remained stable for that period, according to the National Electric Energy Commission (CNEE).

For the social rate group, after applying the subsidy provided by the National Electrification Institute (INDE), these are the amounts per kilowatt hour that users must pay according to their consumption range.

The user must take into account that the monthly bills, apart from the electricity charge per kilowatt hour per month, include other charges such as administration charges, public lighting rate that varies depending on the municipality, and 12% of the value added tax (VAT).

From 1 to 60 kilowatts

The consumption range between 1 and 60 kilowatt hours per month (kWh) is considered the segment of families in extreme poverty and includes 1 million 556 thousand users, according to the INDE. For this group, the contribution to the social rate or subsidy covers on average 54% of the electricity bill, as follows:

  • For Deocsa (Energuate) users, the rate is Q2.04 per kWh. In this case, the user pays Q0.77 and the INDE, Q1.27.
  • In Deorsa (Energuate), the social rate is Q1.98 per kWh. The user pays Q0.75 and is subsidized with Q1.23.
  • In the Electric Company of Guatemala (EEGSA), the rate is Q1.42 per kWh. The user pays Q0.82 and the INDE contributes Q0.60.

The Institute added that it also provides subsidies for users of three municipal electric companies (EEM):

  • In Ixcán, the rate is Q1.40 per kWh. The user pays Q0.64 and the subsidy is Q0.76.
  • In Joyabaj, the rate is Q1.77 per kWh. The user pays Q0.82 and the subsidy is Q0.95.
  • In the head of Retalhuleu, the rate is Q1.25 per kWh. The user pays Q0.63 and the INDE contributes Q0.62.

Consumption from 61 to 88 kilowatts

The consumption range between 61 and 88 kWh per month is considered the segment of families in poverty and includes around 565,600 users. The subsidy covers on average 23% of the electricity bill, according to the INDE.

  • In Deorsa, the user pays Q1.27 and the INDE contributes Q0.71.
  • In the EEGSA area, the user pays Q1.34 per kWh and the subsidy in May is Q0.08.

Consumption of 89 to 100 kilowatts

The last range includes consumption of between 89 and 100 kWh per month, made up of about 262 thousand families. The INDE reports that it covers on average 19% of the electricity bill.

The data provided by the distributors for that segment are:

  • In Deocsa, users pay Q1.32 per kWh and the subsidy is Q0.73.
  • In Deorsa, the user pays Q1.31 and the INDE contributes Q0.68.
  • In EEGSA, the user pays Q1.38 and the INDE contributes Q0.04.

The contribution to cover the period from January to December 2026 represents Q900 million, an amount that the INDE approved to grant from its own funds to these segments. For the quarter from May to July, the subsidy remains unchanged, the entity reported.
