Psychologist Mario Velásquez comments that true gifts are not necessarily found in material objects, but in the quality of time shared and in the emotional experiences we create with others. “The most meaningful gifts are those that go beyond the physical, such as emotional support, affection, empathy, and full attention to the needs of others.. These gifts are capable of generating deeper and lasting bonds, which has a positive impact on our emotional well-being,” adds Velásquez.
Handmade gifts, such as a letter, card, or a lovingly prepared meal, have much greater emotional value than material gifts. “The process of creating something personal reflects the time and effort invested in the other person, which makes the gift perceived as more authentic and genuine. From a psychological point of view, these details represent a direct emotional connection, since they imply a personal investment in the relationship. The act of preparing something with our hands also activates feelings of care and affection towards the other, which strengthens emotional ties and fosters greater intimacy and satisfaction in relationships,” complements the psychologist in an article for Prensa Libre.
