Attorney General Gabriel García Luna removes Rafael Curruchiche as head of the FECI

The Public Ministry (MP) confirmed the removal of José Rafael Curruchiche of the position of section prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (FECI), this May 20, 2026.

The notification, issued by the Department of Personnel Actions of the MP, indicates that the decision is based on the Organic Law of the Public Ministry and the Collective Agreement on Working Conditions, which establish that section prosecutors occupy positions of trust and free appointment and removal.

“The Section Prosecutors constitute a related position of employer responsibility and trust, therefore of free appointment and removal,” the agreement details.

The resolution also details that the agreement “enters into force immediately and takes effect from the date of notification.”

In addition, the MP ordered the payment of the corresponding labor benefits and required Curruchiche to coordinate the delivery of a table and position to the agency where he provided services.

The notification adds that the former head of the FECI must appear before the Comptroller General of Accounts within a period of no more than 30 business days to deliver his sworn declaration of assets, due to the cessation of functions.

The letter is signed by Ana Contreras, in charge of the office of the Department of Personnel Actions of the Human Resources Directorate of the Public Ministry.
