Wilson Roberto Contreras Hernández, a prisoner who was in prison for murder, died this Thursday during a fight in an isolation sector of the Renovación 1 Detention Center, reported the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System (DGSP).
According to the institution, a group of inmates beat Contreras Hernández. He added that the incident was controlled by internal security personnel and the prison continued operations normally.
“The incident was contained by internal security and the detention center operates normally, while the institution is already collaborating with the competent authorities for the investigation,” he indicated.
Transfer of the alleged murderer to Renovación 1
Contreras Hernández had been transferred two months ago, last March, to Renovación 1, after the authorities thwarted an alleged escape attempt from the Pavoncito Constitutional Reestablishment Center, in Fraijanes.
The alert arose through investigations by the Penitentiary Information Analysis Unit and the General Inspectorate of the Penitentiary Regime, which detected an alleged escape planning during a transfer to the courts.

After obtaining the information, agents from the Penitentiary System and the National Civil Police carried out a search in Pavoncito, where they located a cell phone with chats and other evidence related to the alleged escape plan.
“Thanks to the timely information obtained and the quick action of the operational units, the escape of a prisoner held in the Pavoncito Constitutional Rehabilitation Center, who was planning to evade custody during his next transfer to court, was prevented,” the Penitentiary System reported at that time.
