The Autonomous Sports Confederation of Guatemala (CDAG) detailed the technical and financial aspects that will make up the bidding event for the remodeling and rehabilitation of the Doroteo Guamuch Flores National Stadium.
The process will formally advance until next August, the month in which the bases will be published for an estimated amount of Q63.5 millionfor the project that will be executed through an agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The details of the project were presented by CDAG directors in an inspection meeting with the deputy José Chicpresident of the Sports Commission of the Congress of the Republic.
The previous process with the company Bremar, SA was left unfinished non-compliance with delivery times and was terminated in December 2025. With the transfer of the administration to the international organization, the authorities seek to open participation to foreign companies, although this involved restructuring the budget and including works that were not originally contemplated.
Tender details
The public tender will be divided into five main areas of intervention in the sports venue. According to the CDAG, the costs of each item are preliminary and are subject to variations due to competitive supply and demand processes.
The base distribution contemplates:
- Rehabilitation of the athletics track: Q19 million.
- Modernization of the lighting system: Q14 million.
- Installation of new seats: Q13 million.
- Complete change of grass: Q6 million.
- Acquisition of machinery: Q2 million allocated to specialized equipment for the maintenance of the grid.
“That makes a total of Q55 million 950 thousand and it is also included… the difference Q63 million where the administrative expenses are plus the contracting of services to be able to move forward – which adds up to another Q8 million -. In these services there is a work coordinator, which makes a total of Q63.5 million,” said Francisco Ardón, president of the entity.
Schedule and deadlines
The administrative process will officially start in August 2026, the month in which the hiring event will be published on the corresponding portals.
Subsequently, Ardón explained that a phase of awarding and evaluating offers will be opened that It will take approximately four months to assign contracts to the corresponding companies.
With this scheme, the authorities anticipate that the physical works at the sports venue will begin in January 2027.
The renovation project has an estimated duration of 11 months, so the work is projected to conclude in October of that same yearthe official told the congressman.

Inspection actions
Within the framework of monitoring the stadium infrastructure, the Congressional Sports Commission requested that the technical reports of the visits carried out by the UNDP be sent before next Thursday, May 28, with the aim of knowing the specific actions that the international organization has carried out to date.
Likewise, the CDAG authorities were required to present an immediate action plan to address problems detected in the facility’s drainage system.
To verify compliance with these requests and evaluate the status of the bidding processes, the presidency of the parliamentary commission announced that it will summon the head of the CDAG again next month, a meeting in which he must present a detailed presentation of the progress of the project.
