“The delegates will decide who will be the Republican candidate for Secretary of State of Indiana. The decision is solely up to the delegates to the Republican convention, and I am confident that I will be nominated again”, he stated.
Furthermore, this May 22, the governor of Indiana, Mike Braun, declined to speak in favor of Morales suspending his candidacy, although he noted that he has “never” supported the secretary or other candidates.
“I like a process that invites criticism, if necessary, and different points of view. In this case, that is the position that I have maintained from the beginning. That’s why I don’t need to change my current position.”Braun said at a press conference.
The Indiana governor’s remarks come after U.S. Senator Jim Banks and Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita They will withdraw their support for Morales.
Instead, officials endorsed Republican candidate Max Engling, who is a senior advisor and regional director in Banks’ office.
Morales also lost the support of Indiana Treasurer Daniel Elliott, who this Friday demanded the immediate resignation of the Guatemalan.
