The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) maintains the alert for the approach and passage of the eastern wave number 4 through Central America.

Forecaster Ana Pérez explains that the displacement of the easterly wave and the continued atmospheric instability in the Pacific Ocean They could favor accumulated rain in Guatemala.

The high temperatures will prevail at noon, adds Pérez, who points out that they will be perceived in the south and north of the territory. He also mentions that wet conditions remain.

Pérez asserts that the entry of humidity from the Pacific and the diurnal warming will favor the development of rains in the south and center of Guatemalawith possible greater accumulations of precipitation on the bocacosta, west and south of the Oriente valleys.

In addition, it does not rule out rains in other sectors of the country.

The Insivumeh recommends taking the necessary precautions against the expected rains, since these will continue to cause river flooding, floods, lahars in the volcanic chain and damage to the road network.

Regarding the maximum temperatures, reports that they will range between:

  • Bocacosta and Pacific: 35 °C and 37 °C
  • Petén and Alta Verapaz: 34 °C and 36 °C
  • Central highlands: 26 °C and 28 °C
  • West: 24°C and 26°C

The rains forecast for June 3 could vary between moderate and strong, accompanied by accelerated wind.

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reports homes affected by floodings in Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Santa María Cahabón and Senahú, Alta Verapaz.
