On June 1, President Donald Trump announced a new round of diplomatic nominees for the appointment of the ambassadors of Ecuador, Paraguay, Brazil and El Salvador.
Regarding the Central American country, Trump nominated Florida construction businessman Mark Abreu for the position.
It is one of the main allies Donald Trump’s administration’s regional.
Salvadoran media indicate that Abreu appeared as one of the collectors of funds from the Republican party during Trump’s 2024 election campaign.
Media such as EL Diario La Huella affirm that, if confirmed, Abreu He will replace the ambassador vacancy after the departure of former diplomat William Duncan in 2025.
Currently the US ambassador to El Salvador is directed by Naomi Fellows.
Abreu’s nomination will be sent to the Senate for confirmation. According to the US Constitution itself, there is no deadline fixed to carry out the vote before making the charges official.
In the case of the other countries, the nominees were the president of the Florida House of Representatives since 2024, Daniel Pérez, for Brazil; Peter Snyder, technology sector entrepreneur for Ecuador and Paul Kalmbachbusinessman from Ohio to Paraguay.
