Guatemala participates from June 2 to 5 in K’íiwik 2026, the Mayan World Tourism Fair held in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, where it presents its offer of sustainable tourismcommunity experiences, cultural heritage and natural wealth before buyers, companies and professionals in the international tourism sector. The meeting brings together Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico with the objective of positioning the Mayan region as a competitive and sustainable tourist multi-destination.
During the fair, the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (Inguat) promotes destinations and experiences that connect travelers with the cultural wealthnatural and community of the country. Guatemalan participation is focused on showing proposals for responsible tourism, living heritage, well-being and connection with nature, elements that are part of the identity of the Mayan World.
Guatemala also participates in business roundtables and commercial networking spaces that seek to generate alliances with tour operators, travel agencies and international buyers interested in authentic experiences. According to Inguat, these meetings represent an opportunity to strengthen the presence of the country in strategic markets and promote the development of destinations that are committed to sustainability.
K’íiwik seeks to connect communities with international markets
K’íiwik, which in the Mayan language means “market” or “meeting”, is an international tourism promotion and marketing platform created to bring communities, cooperatives, artisans, artisans, tourism service providers and companies closer to specialized buyers from different countries.
The fair includes exhibition spaces, business meetings, networking activities and samples of community tourism, cultural routes, artistic expressions and traditional gastronomy. The objective is for the benefits of tourism to reach directly the communities that preserve the traditions, knowledge and ways of life that distinguish the Mayan World.

Within the framework of the event, the Strategic Plan of the Mundo Maya Organization (WMO) was also presented, a roadmap that seeks to strengthen tourism integration between Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.

The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, explained that the instrument will improve coordination between member countries, promote joint actions and increase the region’s competitiveness in international markets. In addition, it contemplates initiatives related to air and land connectivity, regional cooperation and the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
