Insivumeh monitors possible low pressure system that could increase rains in Guatemala

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported this Thursday, June 4, that Insivumeh maintains surveillance on a possible low pressure system near the Guatemalan Pacific, with the probability of formation in seven days.

According to Insivumeh, forecast models for Guatemala estimate abundant rains starting June 6 in the southern to central regions of the country.

The institution added that the possible low pressure system, also monitored by the National Hurricane Center, would enter abundant moisture into the national territory from the Pacific Ocean, which would cause constant rains.

The most vulnerable regions would be the Pacific, the coastal zone, the south of the central highlands and the south of the eastern valleys.

The Insivumeh does not rule out the possibility of sudden river flooding, floods, lahars in active volcanoes, landslides or damage to the road network.

He asked the population to take due precautions in the face of the expected rains.

It was recommended to Conred to take into consideration the bulletins issued and disseminate them at its different headquarters.
