Starting in August 2026, public sector teachers will receive a salary increase 3%, according to the ladder class, reported this Thursday, June 4, the Minister of Education, Anabella Giracca. This seeks to improve the conditions of the teaching profession, he explained.
This will be the second salary increase that teachers receive during the Giracca administration. On April 30, 2025, it was announced that they would obtain a 5% increase in their salary starting in June of that year, which involved an additional disbursement of Q83.3 million monthly to benefit 135,711 teachers, both permanent and temporary positions.
Now, through a message on social networks, the head of the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) also reported that the 9,047 administrative workers will receive additional Q250 each month. Last year, the increase for this group was Q400.
With the latest hires made by Mineduc, the teaching staff grew to 140,088 teachers compared to 2025, so, starting next August, The portfolio will spend Q38 million monthly to cover both the 3% increase and the additional Q250 for administrative area employees.
“This increase is not conditional on any negotiation nor does it respond to any pressure (…) improving the conditions of those who work for public education translates into better conditions for students,” Giracca said.
The official indicated that this step is taken with “responsibility” and “order” so that the salary increase for workers is sustainable and guaranteed over time.
