Conred confirms damage to homes

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported that it carried out an evaluation at the public beach of Atitancito and at least 15 homes with structural damage were identified.

Eight homes were destroyed

Erick Aguilar, in charge of the Risk Management Office of the Municipality of Iztapa, indicated that the effects are not limited to Atitancito, but also reach other coastal sectors.

“Between Atitancito, Conacaste and El Guayabo we have approximately 18 homes affected. Of these, eight vacation homes are already completely destroyed,” he explained.

The official pointed out that municipal and Conred personnel carried out preventive tours to warn owners and caretakers about the risk of staying in properties with structural damage.

“We notified all people to evacuate because the buildings looked quite damaged in their structure. The priority was to prevent there being any victims,” ​​he added.
