One of the figures that has captured attention on social networks prior to the World Cup celebration is Shakibecca, who offered a concert at the FanPort of the Mexico City International Airport. With a World Cup theme, the Shakira impersonator received tourists on June 8, an act that could bring her legal problems, according to Internet users.
The controversy around the impersonator Rebeca Maiellano arose after the Venezuelan artist used representative elements of the 2026 World Cup, amid the strict surveillance of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) on the commercial aspects related to the tournament.
Shakibecca, who performed for tourists visiting Mexico City for the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is not part of the artists announced by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) for the massive events scheduled in Mexico, the United States and Canada, so her performance could generate legal complications, according to Infobae.
The event was promoted by the imitator on her social networks with the message: “Tomorrow I’ll wait for you at Terminal 2 of the AICM, in ‘The World Terminal’! 11 hours. Welcome everyone to the World Cup in Mexico!” In addition, he indicated that it would be a show in tribute to the “Queen of the World Cups”, Shakira.
At the airport, the artist appeared with the outfit used by Shakira in the official video of Dai Dai to offer their welcome concert to the World Cup party in Mexico.
Through social networks such as TikTok and
Infobae was one of the media that highlighted the statements of Carolina Pérez Luna, director of Intellectual Property Protection of the IMPI, who pointed out that the “unauthorized use of brands constitutes a violation of the Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property.”
Pérez Luna indicated that the World Cup organizers have registered hundreds of trademarks related to the name and elements of this celebration, so their use could lead to legal liabilities.
In the videos broadcast by attendees, some elements registered by FIFA are observed, such as the image of the cup and the official music, which could be part of a practice known as ambush marketing, according to the provisions related to the commercial protection of the tournament.
“The fines for improper use of brands can reach up to 250 thousand UMA, equivalent to about 29 million pesos for each infringing behavior,” Infobae highlights about the provisions indicated by the IMPI.
At the moment, neither Shakibecca nor the authorities of the Mexico City International Airport have issued statements on the subject. Neither FIFA nor the IMPI have reported whether they will initiate any investigation. Meanwhile, criticism against the impersonator has increased on social networks.
