Real Madrid announced this Thursday the appointment of Pope Leo XIV as an honorary member, the highest distinction granted by the Spanish club.
The Madrid entity reported on its website that the Board of Directors, chaired by Florentino Pérez, has agreed to grant the distinction of honorary member to Pope Leo XIV, with which Real Madrid “shows its admiration and recognition of a universal figure who represents billions of people, and who promotes peace, solidarity and justice in the world.”

In addition, Florentino Pérez will continue as president of Real Madrid until 2030 after receiving this Thursday the minutes of the Electoral Board that certify his re-election for a new term at the head of the white club, as reported this Thursday by the Madrid entity in an official statement.
Pérez, who will face his eighth term at the head of the white entity, will head a Board of Directors in which Eduardo Fernández de Blas, Pedro López Jiménez, Enrique Sánchez González and Enrique Pérez Rodríguez appear as vice presidents, while José Luis del Valle Pérez will serve as secretary.
The Madrid leader holds the presidency of Real Madrid in two stages: from July 2000 to February 2006 and from May 2009 to the present. In those years, under his mandate, Real Madrid has won a total of 66 titles between the football and basketball sections, according to the entity.
