Just over a week away from death of the actor James Handyremembered for participating in films such as Jumanji and Top Gun: Maverickauthorities revealed the cause of his death.

The Los Angeles medical examiner confirmed that Handy, 81, died from a stab wound to the torso, combined with cervical compression.

The report, cited by TMZ, stated that cervical compression – external pressure applied to the neck that causes lack of oxygen – acted as an additional factor in death.

The crime occurred on June 3, 2026, in front of the actor’s residence, located in Los Angeles, California. Authorities arrived at the scene after receiving a call in which a person stated: “I am the son of man; I have just killed the man of sin.”

The voice on the other end of the phone was Michael Gledhill, 44, son of the actor’s romantic partner, who was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder.

Wendy Gledhill, 76, Handy’s partner of 31 years and the defendant’s mother, revealed to TMZ that her son He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia in July 2025, but had stopped taking his medication the week before the attack.

“I just try to take it one day at a time, one minute at a time. I loved James and my son. I still can’t believe it… I can’t believe my son did it“, he said to California Post.

The woman told Daily Mail that On June 3, the day of the crime, Handy got up at 9 a.m. to pick up the newspaper. As she remained in bed, she did not hear anything during the attack. Thirty minutes later, Los Angeles Police Department officers knocked on his door.

“The first time I knew something was happening was when the police arrived. They told me that someone had called 911 and that there was a person wrapped in a blanket outside the house”, he recounted.

At the moment, Michael Gledhill remains detained on $2 million bail and, if convicted, could face up to 26 years in prison.
