Kylian Mbappé became the all-time top scorer for the France team by reaching 58 international goals during the 3-1 victory over Senegal in the Blues’ debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 16, 2026.
The forward scored a double at New York, New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium). His first goal allowed him to equal the record of Olivier Giroud, who closed his international career with 57 goals in 137 games. The second goal, with a shot from outside the area in the second half, alone gave him the all-time record for the French team.
Bradley Barcola completed the scoring for France, while Senegal scored in the final minutes.
At 27 years old, Mbappé reached the mark in 99 games with the senior team, consolidating a career that has placed him among the most decisive footballers of his generation.
Behind Mbappé and Giroud appears Thierry Henry, third in the historical classification of French scorers with 51 goals.
In addition to the national record, the attacker also continues to climb positions in the history of the World Cups. With the two goals scored against Senegal, he reached 12 goals in the final stages of the World Cup.
The figure leaves him one goal away from the French record of Just Fontaine, author of 13 goals in Sweden 1958, and four from the absolute mark of the German Miroslav Klose, all-time top scorer in the World Cup with 16 goals.
