The United States National Hurricane Center confirmed that the Potential Cyclone One became Tropical Storm Arthur, the first of the 2026 cyclone season in the Atlantic Ocean.

In addition, it activated alerts for possible floods that could put the lives of people on the Texas coast at risk.

Arthur was located near Tamaulipas, Mexico, and Puerto O’Connor, Texas, United States. Also reported are vmaximum sustained speeds of 65 kilometers per hour and a displacement of 15 kilometers per hour.

According to the NHC, Arthur is likely to produce dangerous floods until June 19 in areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Texas.

Heavy rain could extend the threat of flooding until June 20 and 21.

“Tropical Storm Arthur is expected to produce rainfall of five to 10 incheswith isolated highest totals near 20 inches, through early Friday from the central and upper Texas coast east-northeast to the southern and central parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, along with the western parts of Georgia and Florida.”

Furthermore, it is planned strong winds in Texas and Louisiana. According to its trajectory projection, Arthur will make landfall in the United States and will subsequently be downgraded to a tropical depression.

The 2026 hurricane season is expected to have less impact than that of 2025.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) of Mexico predicts thatIn the Atlantic, between 11 and 15 cyclones could form this year, of which one or two would reach hurricane categories 3, 4 or 5.

To date, three tropical storms have formed in the Pacific Ocean: Amanda, Boris and Cristina. The latter affected Central America, including Guatemala.
