The Prosecutor’s Office against the Crime of Femicide of the Public Ministry (MP) requested a sentence of 50 years in prison against Bryan Antonio Oliva, accused of the crime of attempted murder for an armed attack that occurred in June 2025 against the major assimilated of the Guatemalan Army Maribel de Jesús Molina.

The petition was presented during the final phase of the trial taking place in the Sixth Criminal Sentencing Court.

According to the prosecution, a 25-year sentence should be imposed for each of the three victims of the incident: two private security guards and Molina. The sum of the sentences would reach 75 years in prison; However, because the crime is pursued as an attempt, the penalty is reduced by one third, so the requested sentence was set at 50 years.

During his arguments, Oliva’s defense maintained that his client worked as a motorcycle taxi driver by application and that on the day of the attack he was providing a service when the incident occurred.

According to that version, upon arriving at the scene, the passenger he was transporting shot at guards from a security company and some projectiles hit Molina, who was injured.

The defense argued that Oliva was unaware of the actions that the passenger would commit and denied that he had participated with prior knowledge of the events.

After concluding the debate, the Sixth Criminal Sentencing Court scheduled the reading of the sentence for Friday the 19th.

Attack occurred in June 2025

The judicial process is continuing against Bryan Antonio Oliva for events that occurred on June 10, 2025 on Mateo Flores road, zone 7 of the capital.

According to the report from the National Civil Police (PNC), men traveling on a motorcycle shot at the vehicle Molina was driving.

As a result of the attack, the officer suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to a healthcare center to receive medical attention.

She was later admitted to the Military Medical Center, located in zone 16, where she received treatment for the injury suffered to her skull.

Capture and investigation

On September 8, 2025, authorities captured Oliva for the crime of attempted murder.

According to the investigation by the Public Ministry, the accused would also be linked to other acts committed against security guards of a company located a few meters from the place where the attack against Molina occurred.

During the trial, witnesses indicated that the attackers were traveling on a motorcycle and that they allegedly identified the victim’s vehicle before opening fire and fleeing the scene.

Likewise, during one of the hearings, experts testified related to the identification of the motorcycle that would have been used in the attack. They also confirmed frames in which, according to the investigation, the accused is observed driving that vehicle.

While awaiting the judicial resolution, the authorities reported that they continue the efforts to locate the other alleged person involved in the attack.
