Daniel Ezequiel Aguilar González gave Guatemala a gold medal by winning the 5,000 meter dash at the Ibero-American U20 Athletics Championship, which is held in Lima, Peru. The national crossed the finish line with a time of 15:16.06 and surpassed the Peruvian Robert Apaza Quispe, who registered 15:17.15.
The victory came in a demanding test held on the Videna track, where local athletes tried to assert their status as hosts. Aguilar maintained a competitive pace throughout the race and managed to prevail in the final meters to secure first place on the podium.
In addition to gold, The Guatemalan participated in the 1,500 meter dash, in which he recorded a time of 3:56.27. With this result he improved his personal record and completed an outstanding day in the Peruvian capital, where he established himself as one of the most outstanding athletes in the championship.
The first edition of the Ibero-American U20 Championship will be held from June 19 to 21 on the Videna track, in Lima, Peru. The competition brings together the main athletics promises in the region and offers the possibility of achieving the marks required to qualify for the U20 World Cup, scheduled for August in Oregon, United States.
