The heavy rains that affected Guatemala City this Monday, June 22, claimed the life of a 13-year-old minor, who was swept away by a current of water at the entrance to zone 18, according to the Municipal Firefighters.

The tragedy occurred at the entrance to the Santa Elena 2 neighborhood, zone 18, where a current of water swept away a group of minors, according to reports from neighbors.

Elements of the Municipal Fire Department were sent to the scene after receiving the alert. Upon arrival, they located a 13-year-old teenager in a ditch and carried out maneuvers to extract him.

After taking him to a safe area, Emergency Medical Technicians performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); However, despite the efforts of emergency personnel, it was not possible to save his life.

According to the evaluation carried out at the scene, the cause of death was asphyxia due to immersion.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed.

The competent authorities were notified and were in charge of the corresponding procedures.

The authorities called on the population to avoid exposing themselves to currents, remain attentive to weather conditions and report any emergency to the rescue forces.
