Videos are circulating on social networks showing burned vehicles in Sipacate, Escuintla, and an atmosphere of tension this Monday, June 22.
In that sense, the Ministry of the Interior (Mingob) clarified that the events recorded in a sector of the village of El Naranjo, in that municipality, do not correspond to a search procedure.
“What existed was a requirement for perimeter security support requested from the National Civil Police (PNC) within the framework of a procedure ordered by the competent authority,” he explained.
The Mingob added that during the development of the events, a tense situation was recorded linked to a land conflict between individuals, in which damage to vehicles, firearm detonations and an injured person were reported, who was transferred to a health center and is stable.
He affirmed that the PNC maintains a preventive presence in the area, with the objective of protecting the life and integrity of people, preventing new acts of violence and guaranteeing public order.
“It is also reported that there are no people detained at the police substation in the village of El Paredón or in the hands of neighbors, according to the information verified up to this point,” added Mingob.
The ministry called for calm and stressed that any conflict related to land must be resolved through the corresponding legal channels, without resorting to acts of violence.
He added that the institution remains in coordination with the Public Ministry (MP) for the corresponding investigative procedures.
He reported this after a rumor circulated on social networks that the burned vehicles belonged to the PNC and the MP when the authorities were preparing to carry out a raid.
In statements to The Networkthe Minister of the Interior, Marco Antonio Villeda, indicated that the situation arose from a problem between a group of residents and a company due to the dispute over some land where a judicial proceeding would be carried out.
He added that there were vehicles set on fire and indicated that no prosecutors or police officers were detained. There are also no patrol cars with damage, although the authorities are still collecting information to know what the root of the problem is.
