The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported that, according to the bulletin of the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh), this Wednesday, June 24, an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 was recorded, with an epicentral region in the Pacific Ocean.
The tremor occurred at 6:16 a.m. and was noticeable in different sectors of the national territory, mainly in the southern and southwestern regions of Guatemala.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located off the Pacific coast, at a distance of approximately 165 kilometers from San Marcos, 188 kilometers from Retalhuleu and 196 kilometers from Quetzaltenango.
After the earthquake, the institutions that make up the Conred System carried out monitoring and verification actions to determine possible effects on the national territory.
La Conred maintains communication with departmental, municipal and local authorities to follow up on any report that may be generated.
So far in 2026, at least 3,300 earthquakes have been recorded in the country; Not everyone has been sensitive.
Conred recommends that the population remain calm, identify evacuation routes and review their family response plan.
