He Guatemalan Army announced the calendar of commemorative activities for the Army Daywhich will include military promotions, artistic presentations and the traditional military parade in Guatemala City.
This 2026, the Guatemalan Army commemorates 155 years of its foundationsince the events that occurred on June 30, 1871.
According to the minister of National Defense of Guatemala, Henry Saenz Ramoseach military command will carry out promotion acts to the next higher rank in their respective departments as part of the institutional celebration.
In the central region, activities began on Friday, June 26 with a wood and brass concert in the room of the Miguel Ángel Asturias Chamber, in the Miguel Ángel Asturias Cultural Centeralso known as Grand National Theatre.

However, Sáenz commented that in the capital city the main activity will be Tuesday June 30official date of Guatemalan Army Daywhen the traditional military parade will take place in the capital.

According to the military high command, the tour will begin in the Monument to John Paul IIlocated at the end of the Avenue of the Americaswill advance towards the Obelisk and then it will join the Reforma Avenue.

What happened on June 30, 1871?
According to a document prepared by the Guatemalan Institute of Radio Education (IGER) and the Association of Educational and Cultural Services (ASEC), on June 30, 1871, the so-called Liberal Revolutionheaded by Miguel García Granados and Justo Rufino Barrioswho would later occupy the Presidency of the Republic.
During that time, Guatemala was going through a severe economic crisis after having been governed by conservatives for 30 years, since the founding of the Republic. Social discontent led the liberals to organize an armed movement that overthrew to the then president Vicente Cernasuccessor of Rafael Carrera.
This triumph gave way to a new political and institutional stage known as the Liberal Regime, which lasted until October Revolution of 1944.
