Six people died this Monday, June 29, in an armed incident that occurred in the Las Margaritas neighborhood, in Sanarate, El Progreso, where authorities are investigating the circumstances under which the attack occurred, reported the Departmental Municipal Firefighters.
According to preliminary information, among the victims are three merchants and two men who, preliminarily, are identified as alleged hitmen. However, authorities have not yet issued an official version of what happened. Additionally, a person walking through the area was hit by a stray bullet and died at the scene.
According to the data collected at the scene, it is presumed that the three merchants had repelled the aggression of the two alleged attackers, which led to an armed confrontation that left five dead. This version is still under investigation.
The first hypotheses suggest that the incident could be related to extortion, although this has not been officially confirmed either.
Some of the bodies were left inside a house located in the Las Margaritas neighborhood, while agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) are guarding the scene and carrying out procedures to establish how the incident began and determine the sequence of events.
PNC investigators and prosecutors from the Public Ministry are collecting evidence and testimonies to clarify what happened and identify the circumstances that led to the massacre.
The authorities indicated that the investigation continues and that in the next few hours they could provide official information about the case.
