Relatives of Nidia Renata Bautista García, one of the people injured in the accident that occurred on Sunday, June 28 at the entrance to the Atlántida neighborhood, zone 18 of the capital, they went to the Torre de Tribunales this Monday to demand justice during the hearing of the first statement of Jorge David Rodas Linares, identified by the National Civil Police (PNC) as allegedly responsible for the incident.
The relatives requested that the process not continue for the crime of negligent injuries, under which the driver was charged, since they consider that the seriousness of what happened warrants a different classification.
In a video broadcast on social networks you can see the moment when a car runs over a couple who were traveling on a motorcycle. After the impact, the driver gets out of the vehicle, tries to move one of the victims and then gets back into the car.
Seconds later he backs up and passes over the motorcyclists again, who remained lying on the asphalt, before leaving the scene while several people tried to prevent his escape.
The victims were identified as Kevin Alexander Jiménez Ambrocio, who was driving the motorcycle, and Nidia Renata Bautista García, who was traveling as a passenger.
Hilda Ambrosio Gabriel, Bautista García’s mother-in-law, assured that the family hopes that the case does not go unpunished.
“What we ask for is justice. What that man did is not humane; I believe that not even a little dog can do that to him,” he said.
The interviewee said that she is not satisfied with the crime attributed to the driver. “We want the crime to be changed because they have it as a minor crime. We want that not to remain that way because it is not fair,” he declared.
According to Ambrosio Gabriel, his daughter-in-law remains hospitalized and her health remains delicate.
“Her situation is delicate. We ask God for her recovery,” he said.
He added that the victim is the mother of two minors and requested that the accused remain in prison while the process progresses. “What we want is for him to pay, for him to be sentenced,” he said.
The PNC reported that Jorge David Rodas Linares was taken into custody after the incident and placed at the disposal of the jurisdictional body, charged with the crime of negligent injuries. He is expected to appear before a judge on duty on the afternoon of this Monday, June 29, at a first statement hearing.
In a statement, the institution indicated that the case should not be seen as a traffic accident, but as the result of irresponsible behavior. In addition, he indicated that he will reinforce alcohol testing and road control operations in the capital city and on the main routes of the country.
