An alleged member of the Neighborhood 18 died and two other men were captured this Monday, June 29, during an operation in Ciudad Quetzal, San Juan Sacatepéquez, after neighbors alerted the police about an alleged attack against a family.
According to the National Civil Police (PNC), agents from the 16th police station and the Specialized Criminal Investigation Division (DEIC) located two men who were traveling on a motorcycle and, when trying to stop them, they shot at the police officers, which led to a confrontation.
Josué Armando Soto Muñoz, 22, alias “Sadboy,” died at the scene. In addition, Jesler “N”, 20 years old, alias “Antonio”, was injured and was taken under police custody to a care center.
According to the PNC, Soto Muñoz had a record of murder from 2020, when he was detained in a juvenile correctional center. He added that he had regained his freedom on June 10.
The PNC reported that two 9 mm caliber pistols with the registration number polished off were seized at the scene and the motorcycle on which both were riding was confiscated.
He added that, moments before the confrontation, the two men had participated in an armed attack in La Miradita alley, in Lo de Carranza, Quetzal City, where Jonatan “N”, 24, was injured, identified as an alleged member of the Mara Salvatrucha.
Jonatan “N” was also transferred under police custody to a health center, since he was captured for carrying a 9 mm caliber pistol that had been reported stolen since January 27 in Ciudad Quetzal.
