A mix of feelings and emotions will be put on stage with the operetta Luisa Fernandaa lyrical comedy in three acts written by Federico Moreno Torroba, which will arrive at the Teatro de Bellas Artesin zone 1 of Guatemala City, on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
“The story develops between Luisa Fernanda, Colonel Javier Moreno and Vidal Hernando’s attempts to conquer her. The entire cast is made up of my students,” explains Gabriel Carballo, teacher, baritone, director and pianist.
The plot follows Luisa Fernanda, a young woman madly in love with Javier Moreno, an Army colonel, fickle and somewhat vain. Although Javier spends long periods absent, she waits for him faithfully and rejects the constant proposals of Vidal Hernando, a rude, kind and very wealthy man.
The cast is made up of students from the Respectable Academia Superior de Canto Lírico (RASCL) and guest artists. Among the main characters are:
- The soprano Melissa García Echeverría, as Luisa Fernanda
- The baritone Carlos Quiroa, as Vidal Hernando
- Tenor Christian López, as Colonel Javier Moreno
- The soprano and infanta Lizzy Mérari Carrera, as Duchess Carolina
In addition, other students participate as part of the choir and cast, including Fernando Solórzano, Juan de Dios de la Rosa (El Saboyano), Michael Rivas (Luis Nogales), Mónica González (Rosita), Sergio Hernández (Aníbal), Diego Morales (Don Florito) and Mónica Sitler (Mariana). Ana Cui, Karin Teller and Lorena Cáceres also participate in the choir.
“The most important thing about this staging is that it is a cast of students: new talents and emerging personalities. That is to say, you don’t see the same monopoly on stages, but rather emerging artists who contribute a very important cultural diversification to Guatemala,” explains Carballo.
Luisa Fernanda It will be presented next Sunday, July 5, at 4 p.m., at the Teatro de Bellas Artes, Avenida Elena 14-75, zone 1 of Guatemala City. Admission is free.
“This is an opportunity to verify that there is national talent and that they are not always the same faces. They are emerging talents that the public will be able to enjoy in a well-made and structured proposal. It will be a moment to be distracted, because by appreciating Art clears the mind, enriches it and receives a salvific message of positivism.“concludes the director.
