Guatemala needs to strengthen its cyber resilience

Cybersecurity is no longer an issue that concerns only technology teams, it is a factor that influences business continuity, the provision of essential services, digital trust and the economic stability of a country.

According to the data presented by the company, the Dominican Republic leads the regional ranking with a maturity of 54%, followed by Costa Rica with 53%, Panama with 49% and Colombia with 48%. Below are El Salvador with 41%, Guatemala with 39%, Honduras with 34% and Nicaragua with 32%.

Beyond a numerical position, the data reflects a strategic reality: Guatemala still has important room to strengthen its cyber resilience and get closer to the countries that today show higher levels of maturity in the region.

“Guatemala, like the rest of the countries in the world, is exposed to cyber attacks. How quickly can we react and recover? We call this cyber resilience. In the regional ranking that we present, Guatemala occupies sixth place among eight countries, which leaves us with a great challenge as a country, to which we must pay special attention.” – Mauricio Nanne, CEO of SISAP.

Cyber resilience is not limited to having defense tools or technological infrastructure. It also implies institutional capacity, coordination between actors, preparedness to respond to incidents, governance, talent, strategic vision and operational resilience.

The findings presented by SISAP suggest that cybersecurity should be understood as a component of competitiveness. A country’s ability to resist, contain and recover from an incident influences the perception of stability, business continuity and trust in the digital ecosystem.

In the case of Guatemala, this conversation takes on special relevance due to the accelerated digitalization of processes in companies, banks, businesses and public institutions, as well as the need to protect activities that support a good part of the national economy.

Connect 2026 will put regional resilience on the agenda

From July 7 to 9 in Antigua Guatemala, the sixth edition of Connect by SISAP will be held, where it will bring together more than 250 cybersecurity experts from 12 countries, who will exchange knowledge, trends and strategies to face emerging threats that impact organizations and the region.

Under the theme “CYBER RISK: The Shift to Economic Thinking”, the meeting will promote a vision aimed at quantifying cyber risk and making decisions based on its economic impact, strengthening the dialogue between business, technology and security leaders.
