The General Directorate of the Penitentiary System is investigating several prison guards who transported a prisoner in a private vehicle, after the event was captured on video and disseminated on social networks.
The General Directorate of the Penitentiary System (DGSP) reported that it is investigating the transfer of a prisoner in a private vehicle, after a video circulated on social networks in which prison guards guarding the inmate are seen boarding the car between 18 and 19 streets of zone 1 of the capital, in front of Plaza Barrios.
According to the DGSP, the images show a prisoner with the guards responsible for his custody while he is being transported in a private vehicle, a practice that, according to the institution, contravenes the security protocols established for this type of procedure.
In a statement, the institution reported that it ordered the General Inspectorate of the Penitentiary Regime to carry out the corresponding investigations to establish the responsibilities of the custodians involved.
The DGSP stated that the transfer of people deprived of liberty in private vehicles is not permitted under any circumstances. He added that, once the investigation is concluded, he will determine the administrative sanctions or complaints that may be filed against the prison guards who failed to comply with security protocols.
