In December 2025, FIFA announced a special category of tickets for US$60 for fans of qualified teams. Tickets would be available for the 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup, including the final, which will be played this July 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Guatemala at the New York/New Jersey Stadium, located in East Rutherford.
Four days before the match between Argentina and Spain, the scenario is different: conventional tickets are no longer available through direct sales from FIFA and the tickets offered on the main resale portals start at about US$7 thousand.
The comparison does not mean that the same location has directly gone from US$60 to US$7 thousand. The lowest rate belonged to a limited quota, allocated through the participating federations. However, the two figures allow us to measure the difference between the category created for fans and the entry price that those looking for a seat now find on the secondary market.
The US$60 tickets had limited access
The so-called Supporter Entry Tier —basic category for fans— was designed by FIFA for followers of qualified teams. It had a fixed price of US$60 for any match, including the final, but it was not offered generally to all buyers.
National federations received those tickets and defined their own allocation criteria. FIFA established that 10% of each team’s quota corresponded to that category and that another 40% was located in the next economic price level.
The quantity available was, therefore, reduced compared to demand. FIFA itself reported that it had received about 20 million applications during one of the sales phases.
More than 116 times the price of the basic category
The minimum price found by EFE on resale platforms was US$7 thousandwhile the most expensive tickets reached US$39 thousand. StubHub concentrated a good part of the offer around US$8 thousand; Ticketmaster showed similar figures and TickPick offered seats between just over US$7,000 and US$39,000.
The floor of US$7 thousand is equivalent to more than 116 times the category value of US$60. The comparison should be understood as a reference between two different channels, times and ticket types, not as the verified increase of the same ticket.
Secondary market prices are not set directly by FIFA. They depend on the available supply, seat location, demand and the conditions of each platform.
What official options remain
FIFA maintains its Official Resale and Exchange Marketwhere fans can purchase tickets that are made available again by other ticket holders. The appearance of seats depends on the offer and is not guaranteed. The organization identifies that market as the official channel to resell or exchange tickets originally purchased through its platform.
For the final, the visible direct offer focuses on packages Hospitalityincluding seating, reserved areas, food, beverages and other premium services. The program is operated by On Location as an official provider of FIFA.
According to the survey carried out by EFE, the cheapest packages were offered for US$15 thousand or US$17 thousand; others reached US$29 thousand and the most exclusive experience reached about US$57 thousand per person.
In practice, whoever did not obtain a conventional ticket during the previous phases now depends on the eventual availability on the official exchange market, on a secondary platform or on Hospitality products.
The ticket does not represent the entire expense
Lodging, food and transportation to the New York/New Jersey Stadium, located in East Rutherford, must be added to the ticket price.
NJ Transit set US$98 Round-trip transportation for each match played at the stadium. Tickets must be purchased in advance through their mobile application and are limited to 40 thousand per day.
The official plan also states that attendees must use authorized transportation options and present a valid ticket to access game day services.
Accommodations and flights vary considerably depending on origin, location and booking date. For that reason, there is no single figure to calculate the complete cost. For a buyer starting with a down payment of US$7,000, additional expenses can raise the budget by several thousand dollars.
Before buying a ticket
FIFA recommends using its official channels and warns that the availability of the exchange market depends on other fans publishing their tickets.
Tickets offered on external platforms may be subject to different conditions and additional charges. The buyer should review the final price, commissions, ticket validity and transfer requirements before completing the transaction.
Two prices for the same final
The US$60 category represented the most economical option designed for fans of Argentina and Spain, but was limited to the quotas managed by their federations.
The resale reflects another reality: that of a game with reduced supply, international demand and prices that change as Sunday approaches.
The World Cup final has always been one of the most difficult tickets to get. In 2026, the distance between the most accessible category and the available market a few days before the match also allows us to observe how much the value of watching the match can change when the general seats have practically disappeared.
