A man was arrested by the FBI in New York City after detonating a homemade explosive device that caused minor injuries to two people in front of the building that houses several federal agencies in Manhattan, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI.
According to authorities, the man was arrested shortly after throwing the device against the building. The explosive was composed of fireworks and a flammable liquid, according to ABC channel 7. The authorities immediately cordoned off the place.
“This morning, an individual detonated an incendiary device in front of 26 Federal Plaza in New York City. The individual is in custody and two minor injuries have been reported. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the incident,” the FBI reported on its X account.
According to ABC, the injured are a federal employee and a civilian.
The New York City Police reported that they were inspecting the cart that the suspect had with him, which, they indicated, contained fireworks and air rifles. The cart had a sign with the phrase “ICE off our streets,” according to local media.
