In fact, after pancreatitis, which forced the animal to be admitted for several days, Calahorra was able to check from his work in Madrid how Bruna’s vital signs were evolving and, after a warning from the application, he decided to return home to take her to the vet.

“If I had seen her on a camera, I would have thought she was sleeping, but thanks to the data from the application I was able to detect that something was not right,” he stressed.

The device wearablesassociated with a mobile application that Paula and Bruna use is called AcuPet Health, designed by a company from Asturias, to promote prevention and help guardians know the health status of their pets.

This device, integrated into a harness with biometric sensors, allows you to know data such as temperature, breaths per minute both at rest and in movement or the activity level of a dog adapted to its individual profile, so that guardians can form a better criterion about when to go to the veterinarian and gain peace of mind in their care.

Its creators, the sisters Julieta, Cristina and Isabel Acuña, have explained that the personalized algorithms allow them to be compared with the usual values and alert the owner when alterations that could pose a problem are detected.

In this way, several AcuPet Health users have agreed, in statements to EFEin that the tool has allowed them better prevention in the care of their dogs, by having more information about their health status.

For example, Irene González, who lives in Galicia, began using the device a few months ago with Titan, a dog for whom, despite not having relevant health problems or chronic diseases, it is useful given his advanced age, as explained by his owner.

“On one occasion, the application alerted me of an unusual increase in temperature and told me that I should go to the veterinarian,” González highlighted, and thanks to this, he discovered an infection in a tooth that required treatment with antibiotics and that, he assured, “I would not have detected otherwise.”

For González, “the way I take care of the dog does not change, but the peace of mind about how I am doing it does,” so that “it helps to have super responsible care.”

For her part, Cristina de Diego considers that one of the main advantages of the device has been to better understand the habits of her dog, Chester, since monitoring his activity and vital signs has allowed her, among other things, to “verify that he needed to exercise more than he thought.”

In addition, the possibility of sharing data with the veterinarian is also, in his opinion, a great advantage, as well as scheduling reminders for medication, a function that “makes it easier to follow treatments.” According to those responsible for AcuPet Health, the objective of this tool is “to move from a delayed reaction to a more proactive surveillance thanks to the early detection of deviations from the usual pattern.”
