Gastronomy, music and tradition come together in San Lucas Sacatepéquez

From one of the municipalities with the greatest gastronomic tradition in Guatemala comes the IV edition of the Atol de Elote Festival, an event that seeks to preserve ancestral recipes, promote the culinary wealth of San Lucas Sacatepéquez and strengthen a tradition that has passed from generation to generation.

The festival will open its doors to national and foreign visitors to pay tribute to atol de elote, one of the most representative drinks of the municipality. In addition to tasting this traditional preparation, attendees will be able to enjoy a variety of dishes and snacks made from corn, a fundamental ingredient in local cuisine.

The richness of the recipes and the flavor of corn atol, preserved by generations of neighbors, have led San Lucas Sacatepéquez to be recognized as the land of corn atol. According to the Municipal Directorate of Culture, the festival has established itself as one of the main cultural and gastronomic activities of the municipality, paying tribute to one of the culinary traditions that best identifies it.

According to the commune, this drink has distinguished San Lucas Sacatepéquez since it was offered to travelers traveling through the sector known as La Cuchilla decades ago. Over the years, corn atol became a gastronomic reference in the municipality, especially in the Mercado Monumento al Caminero and in other points of sale where it continues to be part of the local identity.

As part of the celebration, the festival will offer a wide variety of dishes made from corn at different typical food stands. It will also feature live musical performances and artistic activities aimed at the whole family.

The Municipality of San Lucas Sacatepéquez highlights that the Atol de Elote Festival aims to strengthen gastronomic tourism, boost the local economy, preserve culinary traditions and promote the cultural wealth that distinguishes the municipality.
