This Monday, July 27, the Public Ministry (MP) requested sentences of between two and 32 years in prison against six alleged members of the structure.“The Topaz”accused of dispossessing properties through falsification of documents. The Prosecutor’s Office presented its conclusions in the trial being followed against the accused in the High Risk Court B.
According to the MP’s investigation, notaries participated in the structure and registered properties of interest to them and registered them in the names of front men.
After the transfer, the properties were sold at affordable prices to third parties who, according to the investigation, were also part of the structure. To carry out the operations, they forged the signatures of the owners. Most of the victims were elderly people.
During the conclusion phase of the debate, the MP asked the court to impose sentences against the accused, while the defense rejected the allegations and requested acquittal sentences for their clients.
The Prosecutor’s Office requested a sentence of eight years and six months in prison against José Miguel Almengor Mendoza: two years and six months for ideological falsehood and six years for illicit association.
Against Mario Ernesto Avelar Ramírez, the MP requested a total sentence of 32 years in prison: six years for illicit association, four years for ideological falsehood, two years for a special case of fraud, six years for another special case of fraud, eight years for use of falsified documents, two years for public use of an assumed name and six years for laundering money or other assets.
In addition, the Prosecutor’s Office requested that, once the sentence has been served, the accused be expelled to El Salvador, in accordance with article 42 of the Penal Code.
The MP also requested a total sentence of 18 years in prison against a woman identified only as Claudia: six years for personal concealment, two years for use of falsified documents, two years for ideological falsehood, two years for special cases of fraud and six years for illicit association.
For a defendant identified as Roberto, the Prosecutor’s Office requested a sentence of 10 years in prison: two years for use of falsified documents, two years for special cases of fraud and six years for illicit association.
Against Mynor Jacobo Barrios, the MP requested two years in prison for ideological falsehood.
For Rubén Orlando Calderón, the Prosecutor’s Office requested a sentence of 10 years and six months in prison: two years for ideological falsehood, two years for special cases of fraud and six years and six months for coercion.
After the conclusions, the replies from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the defense lawyers began.
The High Risk Court B postponed the debate until August 10, when it is expected to set the date to announce the sentence.
