Carlos Obeniel Morales Guerra accepted on April 29 to be extradited to the United States, where he is also wanted for crimes related to drug trafficking.
The hearing of Carlos Obeniel Morales Guerra took place in the Third Criminal Sentencing Court.
According to authorities, Morales Guerra is wanted by the District Court for the Eastern District of Texas for his alleged participation in drug trafficking activities.
The Public Ministry reported that on February 20, Carlos Obeniel Morales Guerra, also known as “C Morales”, was captured in Petén along with his two brothers.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the three are wanted by the United States for the alleged crimes of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute five kilograms or more of a mixture and substance that contained a detectable amount of cocaine, with the intention, knowledge and reasonable cause to believe that this substance would be illegally imported into that country.
The Public Ministry indicated that an investigation by law enforcement authorities identified a drug trafficking organization that operated in South, Central and North America and was responsible for the transfer of large quantities of cocaine to the United States.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the authorities identified the detainees as members of that organization from approximately 2006 until at least May 2024.
During that period, the MP added, those identified would have been responsible for transporting, directing and managing a part of the organization’s cocaine trafficking activities in Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico.
