A small plane made an emergency landing on a beach in Southern California after experiencing engine failure a few minutes after takeoff. The maneuver concluded without incident and the two people on board were unharmed.
The incident occurred in Huntington State Beach, after the aircraft took off from John Wayne Airport. According to the Police, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the causes of the accident.
A video broadcast on social networks shows the moment in which the plane descends and lands on the sand, where it manages to stop without causing harm to the people who were on the beach.
Some international media identify the pilot as Mike Bremner and point out that he was traveling with his teenage nephew. According to these publications, the aircraft’s engine failed when it was flying at about 300 meters high, approximately five minutes after taking off.
According to these versions, Bremner explained that he tried to restart the engine according to the emergency procedure, but when he was unable to do so, he chose to land on the beach to avoid a major accident. Both he and his companion were unharmed.
US federal authorities are keeping the investigation open to establish the causes of the mechanical failure and determine the circumstances under which the emergency landing occurred.
