Deportivo Mixco debuted on July 28 with a 2-0 defeat against Olimpia of Honduras in the 2026 Central American Cup, in a match in which it generated opportunities to tie the score, but found the figure of the match in goalkeeper Edrick Menjívar.

The Honduran team made use of its international experience and struck at key moments to take the three points at the start of Group D, while the Guatemalan representative competed during several passages of the match despite the result.

The team led by Eduardo Espinel took the initiative from the first minutes and forced goalkeeper Kevin Moscoso to intervene on several occasions.

The insistence paid off in the 27th minute, when Jorge Benguché opened the scoring for Olimpia and put the white team ahead before the break.

Mixco also responded during the first half with approaches from Nicolás Martínez and Fredy Cuero, although they were unable to convert their arrivals into a tie.

Mixco reacted, but Menjívar appeared

The complement showed the best version of the Guatemalan team.

Fabricio Benítez’s team advanced lines and created several chances through Lynner García, Carlos Jiménez, Miguel Moreno, Ángel Yanes and José Cruz, forcing Menjívar to intervene repeatedly to preserve Olimpia’s advantage.

When the tie seemed to be approaching, the Honduran goalkeeper responded with confidence and supported his team in Mixco’s moment of greatest pressure.

Edwin Rodríguez sentenced the match

While Mixco looked for an equalizer, Olimpia found the spaces left by the visiting team.

At minute 80, Edwin Rodriguez He took advantage of one of the Honduran team’s arrivals to extend the lead and make it 2-0.

In the final minutes both coaches made several modifications, but the scoreboard did not move again.

With this result, Olimpia began its participation in Group D of the Central American Cup with victory, while Mixco must look for its first points on the next day to stay in the fight for one of the tickets to the quarterfinals.
