The arrival of Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, time established by the Catholic Church for the preparation of the celebration of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. During March, the streets of Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala will be the scene of the first processional tours that will frame Lent 2025.

Lent will begin on March 5, Ash Wednesday, and will conclude on Thursday, April 17 with the beginning of Holy Week. During these 40 days, the Catholic Church has begun to announce its first processions so that the faithful join the celebration.

This guide will share the schedules, dates and itineraries of each tour, so that faithful and tourists can plan their participation and avoid inconveniences such as vehicular traffic or the difficulty of moving in the city.

Lent processional tours

For the first week of Lent, different processional courtships have been scheduled to which the faithful can attend, as well as masses in which it will be held on Ash Wednesday.

Prior to the beginning of this season, one of the most important processions is the processional transfer of the consecrated image of Jesús Nazareno, which will take place on Tuesday, March 4 from the Beaterio Church of Bethlehem.

This procession will last approximately one hour, starting its departure at 6:00 p.m. from the church located in 14 9-30 street in zone 1. The tour will include the 10th Avenue, it will descend along the 13th street and will be reincorporated to the 14th street to return to the temple.

Penitential Procession of Jesús Nazareno de la Justicia

The processional tour will depart from El Calvario parish, located in the 6th Avenue at 18-36 of Zone 1 capital, on Wednesday, March 5.

Penitential procession of the consecrated image of Jesús Nazareno de los Milagros

Following the time of Lent, on Thursday, March 6, the penitential procession of the consecrated image of Jesús Nazareno de los Milagros will be held, corresponding to the first Thursday of Lent.

The tour of the Rectory of Santa Catalina de Jesús Nazareno will take place on the first Friday of Lent, on March 7, from the 4th Avenue and 5th Street, Zone 1.

From the San José Temple, on Saturday, March 8, the extraordinary penitential procession for the Ladies of the Association of the Consecrated Image of Jesus Nazareno de los Milagros, Archdiocesan Sanctuary of Mr. San José.
