“The contacts between the participants in the Istanbul negotiations resumed and this allows us to assume that, in general, we are on the right track,” Putin told La Prensa, after the telephone conversation held on Monday, May 19 with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, the local agencies reported.
Putin described the telephone conversation of more than two hours that he had with Trump on the conflict in Ukraine.
This conversation “was very informative and very frank,” Putin said in a brief statement. “In general, I think it has been useful in that regard,” he added.
He also said that Trump presented his position on a possible fire.
Putin, who is located in the Sochi spa (Black Sea), replied that Russia is willing to work in a memorandum on Ukraine that includes a ceasefire, according to local media.
At the discretion of the Russian president, the document must include the principles of the arrangement and deadlines for signing a possible peace agreement.
“The key is that the Russian and Ukrainian parts show the greatest desire to achieve peace, and find the commitments that satisfy both sides,” Putin said in a statement to the press released by Russian television.
