The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) updated this Thursday, June 5, the information about the activity maintained by the Fire volcano.
He explained that the descent of pyroclastic density currents to the dry, ash and slabs is recorded. These have weak to moderate characteristics, but with a probability of increasing in the next few minutes.
He added that the decrease in these flows will cause the abundant ash fall in areas near these ravines of the volcanic complex.
Due to the wind direction, this ash moves to the west and northwest and will mainly affect communities of Acatenango and San Pedro Yepocapa.
Pyroclastic density currents are a mixture of gases, ash and rock blocks at high temperature that descend at high speed by the flanks of the volcano, which can cause death for burns and/or suffocation, so it should not be remained inside or in the surroundings of the Barrancas del Volcán, the Insivumeh warned.
It is not ruled out that in the following hours more currents of pyroclastic density of weak, moderate and strong characteristics can be generated, with greater scope towards these and any other of the ravines of the Volcano of Fire.
The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported that she coordinates with municipal, departmental authorities and community leaders in areas at risk, strengthening prevention actions in communities close to the mentioned ravines.
Among the communities are Morelia, Santa Sofía, El Porvenir, Panimaché I and II, La Rochela, Yucales, Blood of Christ, among others.
In addition, departmental delegates and operational personnel carry out verification and direct communication tours with the communities.
The CONRED also issued informative notices for the population and the corresponding authorities.
