The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINEX) reported on Thursday, June 12 that the General Consulate of Guatemala in Los Angeles, California, provides assistance to 28 nationals detained recently in migratory raids carried out by the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE).
According to the MINEX, all the Guatemalan detainees are adults between 18 and 51 years old, of which 26 are men and two women.
The detainees are originally from Suchitepéquez, Huehuetenango, Quiché, San Marcos, Jutiapa, Guatemala, Sololá, Escuintla, Retalhuleu, Alta Verapaz and Jalapa.
According to official information, ICE operations were carried out between June 6 and 11 at different points, including demonstrations in the center of Los Angeles.
Through contacts with relatives of the apprehended Guatemalans and communication with US authorities, it has been determined that they have been transferred to several detention centers, including one located in El Paso, Texas, where they have been interviewed to offer them assistance and consular protection.
The Foreign Ministry ensures that it monitors all cases and that it maintains constant communication with the authorities, in order to support Guatemalan migrants who need it.
In addition, it recommends the nationals in Los Angeles to respect the remaining touch established in the city center, avoid conflicts with the law and move away from the riots.
