The Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption requested the withdrawal of the rights of prejudice to Deputy Julio Portillo, whom he intends to investigate for several crimes.

The petition was presented this Thursday, June 12 before the Court of First Criminal Instance and Narcoactivity of Zacapa, against Deputy Julio César Portillo Paz, indicated by the alleged commission of the crimes of abuse of authority, extortion, influence peddling and illegal collection of commissions.
According to the Public Ministry (MP), the application monitors a complaint in which Portillo, deputy to the Congress of the Republic by Zacapa, with various events that occurred between June and December 2024.
According to the complaint, Portillo Paz would have demanded that the projects awarded to a municipality be assigned to companies selected by him; that 20% of the amount of one of the projects will be delivered; that a construction company gave 10% of the projects awarded with funds from the Departmental Development Council; and that the suppliers of all projects buy cement to a commercial company whose legal representatives could be relatives of the deputy.
In addition, the MP indicates that, always according to the complaint, Portillo would have threatened to influence the general comptroller of accounts to carry out constant audits to the municipality if its demands were not accessed.
