According to the stories, the image of Jesús Nazareno de Candelaria that is in the parish Our Lady of Candelaria predicts tragedies.
The neighbors claim to have heard regrets from the parish, which attribute to the Nazarene.
The historian Fernando Urquizú explained that this legend has become part of the collective memory and that there is a belief that, every time a misfortune is about to occur in the city, Jesus of Candelaria announces it through his regrets.
Urquizú also explained that, according to the legend, before the earthquake of 1976 the lament of Jesus of Candelaria was heard.
