The United States imports eggs from Turkey and South Korea to relieve supply shortage caused by avian flu, which has fired prices throughout the country, confirmed the secretary of the Government Department of Agriculture.
Brooke Rollins told the press in Washington that imports from those two countries had already begun, and that the White House also held conversations with other nations to temporarily import eggs.
“We are talking about hundreds of millions of eggs in the short term,” he added.

On the political battlefield, egg prices became an unexpected point for current President Donald Trump during the electoral campaign, seeking to capitalize on the frustration of voters for the increase in the price of basic products during the management of his predecessor, the Democrat Joe Biden.
After returning to the presidency last January, the Republican tycoon commissioned Rollins the task of increasing the supply of eggs and reducing prices.
Since then, and with the passing of the weeks, producers from several countries have informed of the US interest in their products.
Poultry and Lithuania associations informed the AFP agency that American diplomatic personnel contacted them to manage the purchase of fresh eggs.
“The key question would be what financial conditions the Americans would offer,” said Katarzyna Gawronska, director of the National Chamber of Corral and Food Producers of Poland.
Speaking to the press this Friday, Rollins said that egg imports would be limited and stopped once the US poultry farmers can increase the supply.
