The Holy Week in Guatemala represents, for believers, a time of reflection and deep spirituality, in which One of the most significant milestones is remembered in Jesus’ life: his passion, death and resurrection.
This period, which begins Palm Sunday, It represents a moment of reflection, penance and spiritual preparation for the celebration of Easter.
Each religion celebrates this period through different liturgical expressions. In Guatemala, processions, masses, cults and special praises are part of the traditions that are lived with intensity throughout the country.
However, all these expressions converge under the same purpose: to celebrate that Jesus beat death and resurrected.
Among all these religious expressions, Theatrical art also highlights, and living viacrucis and staging of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ are appreciated by the religious faithful. One of the most iconic in the country is the painful path, organized by the Guatemala Christian Fraternity Church.
For more than 30 years, this work has reached the Guatemalans, offering the history embodied in the Bible from a different perspective.
In this staging, more than 300 volunteers from the frater in theater, dance, singing and music participate, taking to the spectators the history related in the Bible from a different approach.
Under the script by Carlos López and the direction of Erick López, this year the approach will be based on the perspective of Judas, and the spectators can appreciate new music, dances and a renewed proposal.
When is the painful path 2025 and where will it take place?
This year, the faithful religious will be able to appreciate the staging of the painful path 2025 on the following dates:
- Friday 11 and Saturday, April 12, at 7:00 p.m.
- Sunday, April 13, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
All presentations will be made in Church Christian Fraternity of Guatemala, located in the 1st 18-81 street, sector B-1, Zone 8 of Mixco, San Cristóbal City.
Admission is free and is open to all audiences.
