Yolandanda deny probation for the murder of Selena

The Board of Indults and Probation of the State of Texas (USA.) denied This Thursday the freedom advanced to Yolanda Saldívarwho was sentenced three decades ago to life imprisonment for the murder of singer Selena Quintanilla.

The agency reported that they had decided to deny the request due to “the nature of the crime” and because it is considered a danger to society.

“The file indicates that the crime in question presents elements of brutality, violence, aggressive behavior or a conscious selection of the victim’s vulnerability, which demonstrates a conscious contempt for life, security or property of others, so that the offender represents a continuous threat to public security,” says the text.

Saldívar, who is now 64, was found guilty in October 1995 and sentenced to life imprisonment, for the murder perpetrated in the Texan city of Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995.

US laws allow these types of sentences to be reasseval after three decades.

The Quintanilla and Chris Pérez family, the victim’s widower, declared themselves “grateful” that it has been decided to deny probation to Saldívar, who will not be able to request freedom again for five years.

“Although nothing can return us to Selena, this decision reaffirms that justice continues on the side of the beautiful life that we were too soon robbed of the millions of fans around the world,” said a message posted on the Instagram account of Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s older sister.

“Selena’s legacy is love, music and inspiration. She lived with joy, was generous and continues to inspire generations with her voice and spirit,” they added.
