On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the Moon will partially align with the Sun, generating a partial solar eclipse that will obscure the sky for a few minutes. This will be the second astronomical show of the year, after the lunar eclipse of March 14.

During this phenomenon, the moon will cover only a part of the sun, creating a visual effect similar to a “bite” on the king star. Unlike a total eclipse, in which the sun is completely hidden, this event will be partial and visible in several regions of the northern hemisphere.

In which countries will the partial solar eclipse of 2025 be?

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Guatemalan Association of Astronomy (AGA), the eclipse will be visible in:

  • North America: United States (Baltimore, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington).
  • Europe: Madrid, Spain (Pico Máximo at 11.40 h).
  • Northern Asia and Russia.
  • Greenland and Iceland: Up to 83 % solar coverage.
  • North Africa.
  • Parts of South America and Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.

In Guatemala and Central America, it will not be visible, but astronomers recommend following the live broadcasts of NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and professional astrophotographers.

What time will the 2025 solar eclipse occur?

Eclipse schedule varies according to location:

  • Greenland: Maximum at 8.53 hours
  • USA: 43 % coverage at dawn, mainly from 6 in the morning.
  • Madrid, Spain: Peak at 11.40 hours (local time).

How to see the solar eclipse safely?

NASA warns that you should never look directly in the sun without protection. To observe it safely:

  • Use special eclipses lenses (ISO 12312-2 certificates).
  • Do not wear normal sunglasses, radiographs or smoked glass.
  • If you use telescopes or binoculars, place professional solar filters.
  • SAFE ALTERNATIVE: Indirect projection methods (like a cardboard box).

Next solar eclipses after 2025

In the coming years, some regions of the world can enjoy total eclipses on the following dates:

  • August 12, 2026: Total visible eclipse in Greenland, Iceland and the Arctic.
  • August 2, 2027: Total eclipse in Spain, Morocco and Algeria.
  • July 22, 2028: Total eclipse in Australia and New Zealand.
