Arévalo calls on the new CC to “take on challenges” and take care of the constitutional foundations

For this Tuesday, April 14, it is scheduled that the new magistrates of the Constitutional Court (CC) take office.

In that sense, President Bernardo Arévalo referred to the issue at the press conference known as the Round and sent a message to the magistrates who will assume office.

He added that the CC is the highest guarantor institution of the justice system.

“I want to deliver a message to the new magistrates who will assume this great responsibility at the service of the people of Guatemala,” he indicated.

He added: “There are many pending issues, there are so many questions to a system that we know require important changes, but we must begin by listening to these aspects and return to the position of a court that occupies a central place in our legal system, helping to strengthen our institutions and our democracy, a task that requires the greatest commitment.”

“My call is to assume these challenges and pending aspects as an opportunity to strengthen the path of progress that our country demands, a new Court that assumes the importance of the role it plays, that does not aspire to be an arbiter of all conflicts and that at the same time knows how to take care of the constitutional foundations of our democracy and our republican spirit is vital. In our government you will see an ally to continue forward on this path,” the president said.

The judges elected to the CC took the oath on March 24 and all will take office this Tuesday, according to the agenda.
