Xelajú MC announces the departure of players Gerardo Gordillo and Orlin Quiñónez

Xelajú MC made official this Monday, April 13, the departure of two players from its squad. The Quetzaltecan club confirmed through an official statement the separation of the Guatemalan Gerardo Arturo Gordillo and the Ecuadorian Orlin Peter Quiñónez, thanking them for the professionalism and commitment shown during their time at the institution and wishing them success in their next sporting and personal projects.

Gordillo’s case draws attention due to the time he has been out of activity. The Guatemalan player played his last games with the Superchivos more than six months ago, in the Central American Cup last season, where he had minutes against Olimpia and Herediano, His last game being on October 6, 2025. A knee injury kept him completely away from the courts during the 2026 Clausura Tournament, in which he did not add a single minute of official competition.

The most surprising departure is that of Orlin Quiñónez, a 31-year-old Ecuadorian left-back from Eloy Alfaro, who had arrived at the club from Libertad FC and was signed in January 2026 as one of the reinforcements for Clausura. Although his contract was valid until December 2026, the club decided to dispense with his services in the final stretch of the tournament, making his departure one of the most striking on the local market in recent days.

Xelajú MC is in third position in Clausura 2026 with 30 points, two away from the lead shared by Comunicaciones and Mixco with 32 units each. With three days left to play, Roberto Hernández’s Superchivos are still in the fight for the competition title and need to add consistently to remain with real options in the final stretch.

The departures of Gordillo and Quiñónez come at a key moment of the season, when the club defines its squad to face the last commitments of Clausura 2026. The superchiva board made the decision to dispense with both players in a tournament where each match is decisive for their title aspirations.
