The United States Government announced this April 20 visa restriction to 75 people linked with the Sinaloa cartelactions that are part of its campaign against drug trafficking.
The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, made the announcement and noted that the 75 people are “family members, personal or business associates linked to the criminal organization“.
“The Sinaloa cartel traffics illicit fentanyl, which President Donald Trump designated as a weapon of mass destruction, and Other Deadly Drugs Harming American Communities“said Rubio.
He also indicated that the visa restriction is part of a strategy by the Donald Trump Administration to “eradicate the cartels that operate on the continent and protect the safety of Americans.
Marco Rubio did not provide details about the identities of the sanctioned people.
“Impose visa restrictions on drug traffickers, their families and their close personal and will not only prevent their entry into our nation,” said Rubio.
He added: “This measure will also serve as deterrent element for the continuation of illicit activities”.
In recent weeks this has not been the only action that Donald Trump’s Administration has taken against drug cartels, since last week, in Los Angeles, four Members of a family were arrested for their alleged links to the Sinaloa cartel.
The four people were charged with various charges related to drug trafficking, fentanyl and methamphetamine trafficking, as well as such as possession of firearms.
